Work programme 2008

Goals for 2008

The main focus of the activities undertaken in 2007 was on what can be seen as foresighting activities. The primary objective of the 2007 events organised under the scope of Work Packages 3 & 4 was to produce sets of recommendations with a view to identifying modalities and (thematic) priorities for new joint Sino-European collaborative activities. At the end of 2007, the CO-REACH Board reached agreement on the proposed scope of possible CO-REACH activities; this scope was the point of departure for CO-REACH activities planned for the final quarter of 2007 and a good part of 2008.

More specifically, what we seek to achieve in 2008 includes the following concrete objectives that can be broadly distinguished in two main categories, namely implementation of new collaborative activities and continuation and expansion of co-ordination and networking activities .

Implementation of new collaborative activities (research funding)

  • Consortium partners commitment to participate in the establishment of CO-REACH collaborative activities (including financial commitment);
  • Close involvement of our Chinese counterparts in the establishment of these collaborative activities;
  • A web tool for the electronic management of new CO-REACH schemes (T3.5);
  • Consortium arrangements to share programme resources and undertake joint activities (T 4.2)
  • Devising a plan of action for launching new joint CO-REACH pilot programmes (T 4.4, 4.5)
  • Working towards launching one or two CO-REACH pilot calls (T5.2)

Continuation and expansion of co-ordination and networking activities

  • An expanded directory of European funding schemes with greater European coverage, which will include (T2.4):
    • all relevant organisations within CO-REACH countries
    • major funding organisations in other EU countries
  • Organise a series of S&T events aimed at pan-European networking of researchers. These networking events ideally should be linked to the set-up of collaborative activities coming out of Tasks 4.3, 4.4., pilots of such activities are to be implemented under task 5.2
  • Taking part in relevant policy discussions and priority-setting processes on EU-China S&T co-operation (e.g. with the European Commission and the CREST Working Group on Internationalisation)
  • Produce national quick scans of each CO-REACH country (new one-off activity). In the Netherlands it has been agreed
  • Produce CO-REACH position papers on policy topics or concrete proposals on S&T co-operation with China (e.g. the joint response on the Asia-Link preparatory actions with China)
  • A cross-cutting key issue throughout the implementation of activities in 2008 will be the exposure given to CO-REACH events and public outputs.

Work Programme 2008 will be uploaded shortly.
